Rooibos Tea

Rooibos Tea is a direct translation from Africa meaning “red bush” and is a natural herb.  The plant grows at 1500 to 2000 feet above sea level in the Cederberg Mountains of the Western Cape of South Africa.


FLAVOR, INGREDIENTS & BREWING

Rooibos seeds are planted during February and March then tended for 18 months. The entire bush is harvested, cut and milled to a uniform length.  Then the pieces are bruised between rollers triggering the oxidation process. The tea turns from green to a characteristic reddish brown color while developing a natural sweet aroma.

Our Rooibos Tea, pronounced “Roy Boss” are all loose leaf .  The tea has soothing effects on headaches, disturbed sleeping patterns and digestive or colic problems. Many daily recommended nutrients can be derived from hot or iced cups of Rooibos Tea.  For example, Iron, Copper, Zinc, Magnesium, Fluoride, Manganese and Sodium which means healthy skin, teeth, bones, blood and metabolic functions.

Does this all sound too good to be true? We think not, and we drink a ton of Rooibos Tea at Local Tea Company.  We are all very healthy specimens!

For your enjoyment we have selected some of the best flavors around, each with their own special qualities. All teas are sold in 2oz packets from which 20-25 cups of tea can be brewed, unless otherwise noted.  Steep in boiling water for as long as you like, the flavor will be stronger the longer the Rooibos Tea steeps.
