FLAVOR, INGREDIENTS & BREWING

Pinhead Gunpowder Loose Leaf Green Tea from zhejiang province china has a surprising body with captivating nutty green taste. The leaves will open and sink slowly in graceful patterns.

Legend explains this tea was named Gunpowder by a young English clerk who thought the tiny rolled balls looked like Gunpowder. We think he was quite right, but that is as far as the resemblance goes!

Grown between 1,000 and 2,000 ft above sea level, in the Zhejiang Province, China, these leaves are specially selected for quality and size during the months of April and May. Steamed and rolled in the time honored process, the green tea leaves transform into pinhead size nuggets.

An important ritual is to drop a pinch of the precious green tea into a porcelain cup and listen to the tinkle made as the leaves roll about.

Take care in the quantity you use, as this tea is as potent as the name suggests. Pour on water (not quite boiling) and notice the leaves opening gracefully and dancing in your pot before sinking to the bottom! Our pinhead gunpowder produces a much darker brew than most green teas and a memorable fragrance and lasting nutty flavor. Delicately delicious! And be sure to infuse the leaves multiple times.

Chinese researchers found gunpowder high in fluoride. Humans require 1-2 mgs per day and 3 cups of strong gunpowder tea will provide your daily requirement. 20 to 25 cups of tea can be made from 2 oz of loose leaf tea.

BREWING INSTRUCTIONS

Steep this tea multiple times as loose leaf teas have far more flavor than traditional tea bags due to the superior quality and freshness. Tea strength is a personal decision, so please experiment to determine your preferences.

Use water between 180 and 190 degrees F, or allow boiling water to stand for 2 minutes. Steep your Pinhead Gunpowder Green Tea as little as 1 minutes, but not more than 4 minutes. For each of the following steeps use water of the same temperature and double the steep time. Pinhead Gunpowder Green Tea can be steeped at least 2 times and depending on the steep times, as many as 4 times. Also, consider blending the first steep with the following steeps to balance the tea. If you do not want to drink all the tea, store in fridge for wonderful iced tea.

Store in a dry place.
