Savor and enjoy!
Our Selby Select Rooibos Tea is the first tea created to celebrate the many special places at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida. There are many magical events held at Selby every year. A few examples include the Garden Music Series, the All American Cookout on the 4th of July, and the holiday extravaganza, Lights in Bloom.
For the 9 years we managed the Selby House Cafe, Selby Select was requested and served at all of these events. You can still find Selby Select hot or iced most days at the Selby House Cafe. And on your way out of the gardens, stop in The Garden gift shop for a packet. This tea makes an excellent gift. Here is a post about Five Reasons you will Love Rooibos Tea.
You will remember this tea, we hope with the same fondness you may have for the Gardens. Enjoy!
Naturally caffeine-free. Rooibos is a direct translation from Afrikaan, meaning “red bush,” and is a natural herb that grows around 1500 to 2000 feet above sea level in the Cederberg Mountains of the Western Cape, South Africa.
Rooibos seeds are planted during February and March and then tended for 18 months. The entire bush is harvested, cut, and milled to a uniform length before bruising between rollers, which triggers the oxidation process. This turns the tea from green to its characteristic reddish-brown color and develops a naturally sweet aroma.
Rooibos has a soothing effect on headaches, disturbed sleeping patterns, and digestive or colic problems. Many of our daily recommended nutrients can be derived from Rooibos’ hot or iced cups, such as Iron, Copper, Zinc, Magnesium, Fluoride, Manganese, and Sodium. In other words, healthy skin, teeth, bones, blood, and metabolic functions.
Does this all sound too good to be true? We don’t think so, and we drink a ton of Rooibos at Local Tea Co., and we are all very healthy specimens! 20 to 25 cups of tea can be made from 2 oz of loose leaf rooibos. Steep our Rooibos multiple times for even more cups of great tea.
