Nilgiri Black Tea

Our Nilgiri Black Tea is from the Tiger Hill Estate in Southern India and is very smooth, and naturally sweet with a distinct, fruit-like floral character.

In the State of Tamil Nadu, South East India, Nilgiri is a mountainous region. The peaks rise to an elevation of 8,500 feet above sea level. The soil and climatic conditions produce very distinctive teas.

The Tiger Hill Estate is small as tea-growing estates go and is a respected employer with above-average labor practices.

This black tea is produced each January when the sun shines more intensely; there are fewer clouds, cooler temperatures, and virtually no rain. These are all perfect conditions for a stunning tea.

This tea has an exceptional fruit-like flavor and bright copper color, suitable for drinking any time of day. Some milk and a dash of sugar will only compliment the taste of this tea, but honestly it does not need another thing.

And if you like iced black tea, this is for you!

If you are looking for bolder, more robust black tea, check out our Assam FBOP, or our Margaret's Hope Darjeeling, or our custom black tea blend, Organic Sarasotan Breakfast Tea.

20 to 25 cups of tea can be made from 2 oz of loose-leaf tea.

Brewing Instructions for Nilgiri Black Tea

Steep this tea multiple times. Loose-leaf teas have far more flavor than traditional tea bags due to their superior quality and freshness. Tea strength is a personal decision. Please experiment to determine your preferences.

Use boiling water and allow your Nilgiri Black Tea to steep as little as 3 minutes or as much as 6 minutes. For each of the following steeps, use boiling water and double the steep time.

This tea can be steeped at least 3 times and, depending on the steep times, as many as 5 times. Also, consider blending the first steep with the following steeps to balance the tea; if you do not want to drink all the tea, store it in the fridge for wonderful iced tea.

Store in a dry place.
